Culture Photography Read And Write

Many photographers are asked what kind of photography they do. They want to know what your life with a camera is like. Who we are and what we do can feel like defining characteristics and we can live half our life trying to find out who we are. For the photographer in the article, the question of who he was led him into a career in cultural photography. He became fascinated with how people view the world.

The photographer realized that his interest was in culture. Culture can be not only in rural areas around the world, but in communities in urban cities. Culture photography contains aspects of various fields of photo. There could be a combination of documentary, portrait, architectural, street, landscape, and various other fields of photography.

The photographer shot his pictures in black-and-white, which is unique. However, when he approached Nat Geo for a project, they told him that his work had to be shot in color. The reason he shoots in black is because it reflects an aspect of culture. The photographer looked up to Nat Geo as a child, but he realized that his style of photo was clearly very different as they didn’t like his black-and-white approach to culture photography.

Favorite Teacher

For my favorite teacher, I chose Mrs. Cauchon. She is my favorite teacher for many reasons. I think that she is an amazing teacher due to her passion for photography, and she makes it seem very interesting. She makes sure her class is academic and productive, while also being nice and helpful to her students.

Her passion for photography has allowed me to develop an interest in the art of photography as well. She likes to help her students and is very involved around the classroom making sure everyone gets help if they need it. I enjoy being in her class because of the good environment.

She is overall just a good teacher who makes sure her class is never boring, and always has something  new to teach her students. She is passionate about what she teaches, and I always enjoy learning new stuff about photography. I am very happy to be in her class, and I hope to continue to learn about photography with her.

Photography Timeline

The most important inventions in photography are Niepce’s  camera and the creation of the Eastman Kodak company. Niepce paved the way for more cameras to be created in the future, and Kodak was the first photo company, and they grew the photo field by releasing many new cameras.

External Flash Worksheet

You would use an external flash in a low light setting to create your own controllable light source.

When using external flash, you don’t need to meter light because it automatically does it.

Flash synchronization means synching the speed to the right one. If it is out of sync, half the screen will be black and the other half will be white.

ETTL is “Through The Lens Metering”. It is the metering mode used for an external flash.

If you shoot faster than the camera sync speed, half the screen will be too dark and the other half will be too bright.

Photographers use a diffuser and bounce flash in order to bounce light from a certain direction. This is important as it is used to create lighting from an angle.

A slave is a flash mounted on the camera which creates lighting. It is what flashes the light from the camera.

If your image is too dark or too bright, you can change the intensity of the flash or point the slave flash in a different direction.

Flash Comparison

  • The flash makes the face brighter, which makes it look nicer.
  • The shadows are made less visible with flash.
  • The background appears a little more vibrant with the flash.
  • The girl’s hair looks shinier, which makes it look smoother and softer.
  • Her facial features appear more defined, which makes her more attractive.

Taking A Vacation

If I could go on a vacation, I would go to Greece. I would go because I think it’s one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and there are many places to be. I could go to the beaches of Santorini or the Acropolis in the capital of Athens.

Strobe Lighting

There are two different options for lighting. You can get a kit with a flash head and power pack, or a monolight kit. The two types of power packs are symmetrical and asymmetrical. A flash head contains flash tubes which emit light once supplied with higher voltages. Having controls on the power pack makes it way easier to change the settings of the flash heads.

Light modifiers are also very important and helpful sources of light. The most common are umbrellas and softboxes. Reflecting umbrellas create diffused and soft light. They are mounted in order to make the strobe light face the subject. The reflective umbrellas are lined in a gold or silver-lined material. However, softboxes are either square or rectangles.

Grips and stands are needed in order to hold the light sources and actually use them. The two main types of light stands are lightweight stands and C-stands. They both come in different shapes and sizes. The best light stands are the ones with an air-shock. C-stands tend to be more expensive, but are very useful and important. They are widely used in the video industry for their reliability and durability. They are strong enough to hold backgrounds without a problem.
